RACING AND THE TOTE.
TREASURY'S SHARE £86,095
The million mflfk in totalisator investments waa reached in 1900, when the State benefited to the extent of £15,900, and there were 278 days of racing. Last year the public put through the record sum of £3,600.465, the State's percentage being £86,095, and there were 265 racing days. The investments) showed a rise of £713,094, compared with the previous year. Details are officially available covering the actual racing year ending on July 31st. These show that the Treasury last year obtained in gate money and licenses £2651. In addition to the totalisator fees there were -138 tote licenses, and the amount of gate money and fees (apart from investments) subject to toll from the State waa £102,686.'
