HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE

Wellington, Monday,

The High Commissiner's cable, dated London, July 26th, is as follow, quotations unless otherwise specified, oeing average market prices on spot: Mutton.—Dull sale for all qualities. Prices have declined 1-16 of a penny for Canterbury; cheaper grades are unchanged. Canterbury 4Jd, light weight 4 5-16 d; North Island 4 3-16 d. The decline has been partially regained. Lamb.—There has been a better tone in the market this week, and price 3 are firmer by 1-16 of a penny for all grades. Canterbury twos 52d, heavyweights 4 13-16 d; other than Canterbury 5 5-16 d. Beef.—The market is steady. New Zealand hindquarters 4£d, fores 3Jd; chilled hinds sd, fores 31d. Butter. —The market is weaker, but prices are about the same as during last week.

Chee3e.—The market is firm and steady, with a tendency for higher prices. No change in prices is reported. Hemp. —The market is firm, with improved demand. Holder* are not anxious to sell, and business, is somewhat restricted. Owing to absence of offers from the Dominion, New Zealand good fair grade cannot be quoted. Fair £25, forward shipment New Zealand fair grade £25 10s. Good demand continues for Manila hemp, especially for fine quality. United States buyers are taking an interest in the market. The output from Manila for the week was 13,000 bales. Wool. —The market remains firm, with no change to report in prices. The Bradford market is quiet. Continental export trade is very bad. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantil Agency Co., Ltd., report: — HAMLITON SALE. There was a medium ent-y at our Hamilton sale o;i Thursday last, and good prices obtained throughout. We qoute:—Fat cows £5 15s to £8 10s, grown steers, forward £S, three year steers £6 7s Gd, cows, forward £4 5s to £5 2s 6d, store cows £2 19s to £3 14s, springing heifers £5 15s to £7, mre backward £4 10s to £5 ss, dairy cows £6 to £B, fat ewes and vvether3 20s, hoggets 14s 6d, store pigs 36s to 50s, slips 14 6d to 17 6d. OTOROHANGA SALE. j At Otorohanga, on the same day, i empty cows made £3 12s 6d to £4 15s J according to condition, fifteen to ] eighteen month steers £3 9s to £3 j 19s, yearling steers £2 10s to £3, heifer 3£2 12s 6d to £2 19s, mixed yearlings £2 7s to £2 15s, springing heifers £5 17s 6d to £7 15s, dairy cows to£ 7 15s.

Dalgety and Co. Ltd., report:— HAMILTON DAIRY STOCK SALE. We held our annual sale in the above yards on Wednesday, 23rd inst., when we had a full yarding. There was a good demand for all forward cows and heifers. Mr W. Chitty's well-known dairy herd elicited keen competition and averaged close on £lO, prices ranging from £8 15s to £l3 10s, cows backward £5 5s to £7 lOs.three year heifers close to profit £72 s 6d to £8 12s 6d, three year heifers backward £6 15s, two year heifers close to profit £5 10s to £6 15s, two year heifers backward £4 to £5 10s.
