CORRESPONDENCE.

Letters for publication, and articles for insertion, must be accompanied (not necessarily for publication), by the name of the writer, and, provided they are not offensive in any way, will be Published as space permits. The Editor does tot identify himself with the opinions expressed >y correspondents, and accepts no responsibility •or them.J A CORRECTION. The Editor. Sir, —The meeting held in Marokopa recently to consider the question of merging the Awakino County into adjoining counties i 3 reported in your issue of May 31st, and therein Mr Scholes, Waitomo County chairman, refers to ''A ietter which appeared in the Taranaki Daily News under the name, of Mr C. Leech chairman of the Awakino County Council, urging th = carrying on of the county as a whole, and asking the ratepayers to hold the bridging of the Mokau river in view." Mr Schiles further stated that the Waitomo County did not want the bridge, neither did the people of Northern Awakino. Be this as it may, they will doubtless appreciate its existence in the near future, and probably will not object to contribute their mite to its cost, that by the way. My purpose in writing now is to protest against the unfair inference contained in Mr Scholes' remarks, viz., "That I am the author of the letter in the Taranaki Daily News. I have rever seen the letter, nor had anything to do with its composition or production, in fact, I had no knowledge of its existence until I read your report of the meeting at Marokopa. This was only yesterday, as I had not seen a Chronicle for three weeks through absence from the district, hence the delay in making this correction. I sincerely trust Mr Scholes, or your reporter, whichever is to blame for the implication will be more certain of his ground in the future.—l am, etc., C. LEECH. Awakino, July 10th, 1913.
