AWAKINO COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of tbo Awakino County Council was held at Waitanguru on July 12fch. Present — Crs Leech (chairman), Old, Kelly, Thorns, Patterson atiu the secretary. Correspondence was read from Mr C. K. Wilson,, M.P., with respect to grants in the county. Mr J. B. Carr, acknowledging receipt Qf cheque and letter of appreciation from the council fin respect of the election. The secretary Waikato Hospital Board notifying thn sum of £231 14s is now due for hospital levy. Mr R. C. Hughes concerning rates on section in Mokau township. Mr C. W. Cross, regarding gi ant for his road. The Kawhia County clerk, asking the council's help in the matter of road access to native lands. Mr D. Bleloch, with reference to thirds on Pukehikuru road. Mr G. T. Murray, forwarding schedule of thirds due to various roads as at May 28th, 1913. The chairman with respect to post' ponement of the July meeting. Correspondence was read to — Mr A. F. Howarth, confirming his appointment as county solicitor. Mr S. Yicary, in reference to butcher's license, Mr A. Higginsor:, regarding a voucher required. The following motions were carried. That Mr Cross' letter be acknowledged, and that he be informed that his case will be dealt with when application is made for grants throughout the county.—Crs Leech and Old. That this council support the Kawhia Council in its resolution.— Crs Leech and Thorns. That the clerk be instructed to apply for all thirds accrued and accruing in the county.—Crs Leech and Old. That the district road engineer be asked to supply a list of grants re quired for the county ■ aso that the council may be able to support his application.—Crs Old and Kelly. That the clerk be instructed to confer with the solicitor regarding the legality of levying the rate on the unimproved value, and if necessary to take immediate steps to take a poll on the question.—Crs Leech and Thorns. That preliminary steps be taken to raise a loan of £2OOO to metal the Kiritehere and Mangakakopu roads and to apply for a subsidy for same.— Crs Patterson and Kelly. Cr Patterson applied for amount in three special loans, but this was over ruled by the council as being unduly costly. That Mr J. IL Trinnear be paid the sum of £ls 15s'for his services as acting clerk to the council, and a covering letter be sent expressing the council's appreciation o f his services. —Crs Patterson and Old. That steps be taken to promote a Bill for submission to Parliament to authorise the taking by the council over all road, scenic, stock and other reserves not required for the purposes which they were set aside, and that the chairman and clerk confer with the county solicitor on the matter. — Crs Kelly and Leech. That the clerk write to Mr Murray on the matter of abandoning a portion of either the Awakino-Mangao-taki road or the Mangaotaki-Kirite-here road on tbe Hirangi range,—Crs Old and Kelly. Accounts toallintg £3S lis 8d were passed for payment.
