FATALITY AT TE KUITI.

BUSH FALLING ACCDIENT. An accident occurred at Te Kuiti on Sunday, resulting in the death of a Maori named Paraone te Atahira. It appears that deceased, who resided about a mile from the town with Mr John Turner, was chopping down a dry tawa tree for firewood. In falling one of the branches of the tree came away and struck deceased on the head, killing him instantly. The body was brought to the pah at Te Kuiti on Sunday evening,'and a tangi is now being held. THE INQUEST. An inquest was held on Monday before Mr J. Tammadge deputycoroner, and a jury of four. Evidence as to the identity of deceased was given by Mr J. T. Hetet. Deceased's grand nephew Arthur Turner, teatified to seeing Paraone 'about one o'clock on Sunday. About two hours later witness found deceased in the bush with a branch of a tree on his head. Witness tried to get the body free but could not. Deceased had been chopping a tree down, and had an axe in his hand. Tuheka Hetet gave evidence as to finding the body. As far as he could judge, the tree which deceased had been falling had fallen against another tree, and a branch had broken off and fallen back on deceased. A verdict of accidental death was returned.
