CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

A combined meeting of the Settlers' Association and the Commerce was held in the Municipal Chambers on Wednesday evening last. Mr Mostyn Jones presided. The principal matter for discussion was the amalgamation of the Association with the Chamber of Commerce.J After general discussion it was unanimously resolved that this amalgamation take place. The chairman stated that he was sure the Chamber would be much strengthened by this resolution, and that requests made by the Chamber would now carry more weight. The following new members were elected;— Messrs W. McNaught, F. Sutton, C. B. Lever, Connell, Dooley, J. E. Walker, C. Boleo, Hillary, Cook, Thomson, and Rutherford. It was resolved that a committee of five be elected from the retailers to act as a committee in conjunction with the Chamber's executive. On a ballot being taken the following were electedffto act on the committee: Messrs Allison, Turner, Lineham, Darrow, and Sutton. | Mr C. B. Lever proposed, and Mr M.J. Jones seconded,"That the matter of establishing freezing Works at or near Te Kuiti be pushed ahead."— Carried. It was resolved that general meetings be held monthly at 8 p.m. on the first Tuesday in each month. Major brought forward "the mattrer of sending an exhibit from the King Country to the Auckland Show. This matter was discussed at length, but no definite steps were taken. On the motion of Messrs Young and J. E. Walker it was resolved that it be a recommendation to the Borough Council to draft a by-law requiring every business man starting in the town to pay a deposit of £lO, the same to be refunded should they remain for six months in the town. A"vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
