HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. Wellington, Monday. The following is the High Commissioner's cable, dated London, May 25th, quotations, unless otherwise notified are average market prices on spot: — Mutton.—The market is firmer, with better demand. Canterbury 4gd, North Island 4Jd. Lamb. —The market is quiet. Canterbury 6£d, other than Canterbury 6£d. Beef. —The market is quiet, with less demand. New Zealand hindquarters 3&d, fores 3sd. Butter. —The market iB steady, with no change in prices. Choicest New Zealand 113s, Danish 114s, Siberian 100s. Australian 106s. Argentine 104s. Cheese. —There is a better demand. New Zealand white 59s 6d coloured 57s 6d. Hemp. The market is dull. Manila is freely offered for sale by speculators. New Zealand good fair £3l 103, fair £2B, fair current Manila £32, forward shipment June to August New Zealand good fair £32, fair £2B, fair current Manila £32 10s. The output from Manila for the week was 18000 bales. Wool. —The market remains firm.
STOCK SALES,
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:— At Oha»po on May 20th, we submitted 2750 Bheep and 523 head of cattle. Buyers were present from Kawhia, King Country, Glen Murray and surrounding districts, and there was good competition throughout, all the sheep competition throughout, all the sheep and the majority of the cattle selling at advanced rates. Prices:—Four and six tooth wethers 15s. two ;uoth to f.m. ewes in lambs Is to 13s 7d, f.m. ewes 7s lOd to 9s, woolly lambs 10s, shorn lambs 9s 2d, three and a half year steers in forward condition £7 10s to £7 lis, three year steers £5 6s to £5 7s 6d, fat cows £6 2s 6d to £7 10s, twenty month heifers in calf £4 to £4 2s. two year heifers £5 to £5 17s 6d, two and a half year steers £4 10s to £4 17s, dairy heifers close to profit £6 10s to £7 10s, strong well bred calves 35s to 445.
At Hamilton on Thursday we had a medium yarding and all fat stock sold at satisfactory prices. Fat wethers made 19s 4d to 19s 6d, fat ewes 14s 6d to 16s, fat cows £5 10s to £6 17s 6d, fat heifers £5 9s to £6 ss, twenty months heifers £3 3s to £3 7s, springing heifers £5 15s to £6 2b 6d, weaner pigs 9s 6d to 13s, porkers 29s to 375. A contracting plant of horses, waggon, etc., sold under brisk competition. Young active mares and gelding made £26 to £2B 10s, spring trap horses £l7 to £22, aged draughts £ll 15s to £l3 10s, waggon £27, harness and covers at good prices. At Otorohanga on the same day well-grown calves made 34s to 425. smaller sorts 22s to 30s, two year Shorthorn heifers in calf £4 17s tid to £5 3s, empty cows £3 3b to £4 10s according to condition, two and a half year steers £4 5s to £4 13s.
