FOOTBALL.
I MANIAPOTO RUGBY UNION. The management committee of the above union met in the Chronicle office last night. A-considerable 'amount of routine business was gone through, and accounts were passed for payment A number of applications were received from Northern Union players, asking for re - instatement in tho Maniapoto Rugby Union.—lt was decided that every effort be made by this union to re-instats players where possible, and that the matter be re ferred to the South Auckland Union.
FIXTURES. The draw for the first round of club matches resulted a 3 follows, all matches to be played on the firstmentioned club's grounds: — May 17th. Waimiha v. Te Kuit.; Nehenehe v. Otorohanga; Mangape li v. Ongarue. May 24tb. Te Kuiti v. Nehenehe; Ongarue v. Waimiha; Otorohanga v. Mangapehi. May 31st.—Mangapehi v. Nehenehe; Waimiha v. Otorohanga; Te Kuiti v. Ongarue. June 7th.— Nehenehe $ Waimiha; Mangapehi v. Te Kuiti; Otorohanga v. Ongarue. June 14th.—Te Kuiti v. Otorohanga; Ongarue v. Nehenehe; Waimiha v. Mangapehi. The following referees were appoited for Saturday next :^—Waimiha v. Te Kuiti; Mr Hayson; Nehenehe v. Otorohanga, Mr P. Mora; Mangapehi v. Ongarue, Mr Bowick. It was decided that, a junior match be played on the Te Kuiti ground as a curtain raiser.
The Ongarue players journeyed to Mangapehi on Saturday last and were defeated by the local team by 11 ooints to 3. The weather was very bad and a good exposition of the game was out of the question The teams were entertained at Mr W. O. Irvine's boarding house in the evening. A combined Rugby and Soccer football club has been formed at Mangapehi this season, and good teams should take the field.
