COMING MAYORAL ELECTIONS.
REQUISITION TO MR BODDIE,
For some considerable time there have been rumours to the effect that a strong effort was to be made to induce Mr J. Boddie, ex-Mayor of the borough to again stand for the Mayoralty. This morning the movement culminated in a meeting held in the Municipal Chabmers, at which a considerable number of prominent townspeople attended. The chair was taken by Mr R. M. Somerville, who, on behalf of those in attendance, presented Mr Boddie with a numerously signed requisition to stand for the Mayoralty at the coming election. Mr Somerville referred eulogistically to Mr.Boddie's past services and in announcing the fact that the present Mayor and all the members of the council had signed the requisition, Baid he fully believed the feeling of the townspeople was unanimous on the matter. He trusted Mr Boddie's answer would be favourable, notwithstanding the fact that many other dutieg claimed hi 3 attention.
Major Lusk, in a short speech, supported the request of the signatories. Mr Boddie, in reply, said he felt extreme gratification at receiving such a representative requisitions. He had been approached by a considerable number of people privately, and had given the matter serious consideration. In view uf the strength of the requisition he felt it his duty to do what he could to serve the public and would consent to nomination for the position. In conclusion he expressed the utmost confidence in the future of Te Kuiti. and said he would be proud to do his utmost to assist in the progress of the town and district.
