TE KUITI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A special meeting of the Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening last. There were present—The Mayor (Mr E. H. Hardy), Crß Lusk, Julian, Jones, Walsh, Somerville, and Lever.

The report of the Electric Light Committe was read and adopted. Electrical Engineer.—Applications for the position of electrical engineer to the borough were considered and reduced to the following three: —Mr R. H. Bartiey, Auckland; Mr. C. Brown, Auckland; and Mr F. G. Davies, Waihi. A ballot was taken for a final choice, and Mr Bartiey was successful. Mr A. S. Chamtaloup, of Auckland, was appointed assistant electrical engineer. A Protest. Cr Lever entered a strong protest against the appointment of an electrical engineer on the grounds that an engineer combining tfee offices of borough and electrical engineer should be appointed. Tenders. —The tender of Messrs A. and T. Burt, Ltd. (£77 4s 6d) for the intallation of electric light at the Municipal Buildings was accepted. Mr Crookes was authorised to arrange for the supply of 50 metres at a cost of £62.

Electrical Extensions. —• It was resolved that Mr H. Ellison and other applicants be informed that as soon as money is available for the purpose the electrical mains will be extended to their properties throughout the borough. It was also decided that the cost of extending the mains to the Te Kumi quarry for the purpose of driving the crusher be met out of the contingency! allowance in the £13,000 loan. Mr Crookes reported that the approximate cost of laying the mains to ihe following places would be:— Te Kumi quarry £l2O, Mangaorino road £65, Awakino road £95, Waited road £7O.

Mr Grookes also reported that he had received intimation from the contractors for the instal'ation that the engine would not be shipped till the end of April, but that he was endeavouring to make satisfactory arrangements with the contractors for the use of a suitable engine till the other came to hand.
