.. ♦ ■ FAT STOCK SALES. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., report:— At Westfield yards, on Wednseday, fat cattle were yarded in larger numbers than usual, and prime bdef realised last week's quotations; second quality sold a shade easier. Best oxen sold to 28s per 1001b, others 25s to 275. Cows and heifers 23s to 255, steers £6 to £l2 2d 6d, cows £4 10s to £lO 10s. Veal calves were penned in large supply, and sold at lower rates. Heavy vealers £3 to £3 16°, medium weights £2 2s to £2 18s, others 20s to 38s, smaller and fresh dropped 2s to 16s. Sheep were' yarded in average numbers and improved in prices. Best wethers 18s 6d to 21s 9d, others 15s 6d to 18s, heavy ewes 17s 6d to 19s 9d others 12s to 16s. Lambs in full supply. Those fit for freezing purposes were lower in value owing to buyers not Being able to get them to slaughter. Best lambs 5s 6d to 21s 3d, which was obtained for the first prize takers at the Franklin show the property of the Karaka Land Co.; others 12s 6d to 14s 9d, shorn 8s 6d to ls3 9d, inferior fatted 5s 3d to 8s 3d. Pigs were yarded in large numbers, and sold at late rates, baconers £2 10s to £3 Is, large porkers 35s to 455, porkers 253 to 345, slips 18s to 21a. Alfred Buckland and Sons report:— At our weekly fat stock market on Wednesday, our entry of fat cattle totalled 448 head, and all of excellent quality. There was a steady demand. An odd pen of really choice oxen sold at fully last week's rates, but taking the sale on the whole values receded about 10s per head. Choice ox 28s, prime 25s to 265, cows and heifers 19s to 245, steers ranged in price from £7 to £l2 15s, cows and heifers £4 to £9 15s. Many trucks of Waikato oxen averaged over £lO. There was an average supply of fat and young calves. Choice suckers sold well, others sorts were easier. Heavy suckers to £3 18s, medium 35s to 50s, lighter 25s to 335, small and fresh dropped 2s to 13s. Sheep came forward in usual numbers. Prime sheep were scanty and met with a brisk sale, prices being fully 2s better than last sales. Extra heavy prime wethers 23s to to 245, heavy 20s 6d to 235, radium to heavy 18s to 19s 6d, light and unfinished 13s 6d to 17s, best ewes 17s 6d to 19s 6d, good 15s to 17s. others 10s to 14s, The 1134 lambs yarded sold at fair values freezing buyers taking practically the whole offering. Best heavy Woolly 16s 6d to 19s, good 13s 6d to 15s 6d, unfinished 8s 6d to 12s 6d, best shorn lis 6d to 13s 3d, others 7s to 10s 6d. The pig market was well supplied with baconers and porkers of choice quality. Values were fairly steady throughout at last week's quotations. Young pigs were easier. Baconers £2 8s to £3, large porkers 38s to J46s, small 24s to 30s, weaners 10s, suckers 4s to 7s 6d. Abraham and Willaims, Ltd., report on their JohnsonvUle sale as follows:—A fair yarding of bullocks and a heavy one of sheep came forward. Bullocks sold well, but sheep met a very dragging sale. Prime heavy bullocks £lO 17s 6d, prime bullocks £9 10s to £9 17a 6d, lighter £9 2s 6d to £9 7s 6d, plain light £5 Bs, prime vealers 38s to 455, smaller, 27s 6d, prime wethers 18s, good wethers 16a 4d to 16s 9d, medium ewes 14s 6d to 15s, prime lambs 13s 6d to 14s, medium lambs 12s 6d to 12s 9d, extra heavy show wethers 25s to 26s 6d, extra heavy 21s 3d to 22s 3d.
