THE BOROUGH ROADS.

QUESTION OF MAINTENANCE. The important question of road maintenance cropped up at the Borough Council meeting on Monday evening, when Cr Somervilio drew the attention of the council to the necessity of repairing the Awakino road before winter. He said that sufficient attention had not been paid to maintenance in the past, and the Awakino road, which was the main thoroughfare of the district, and served a great number of Battlers, had been practically impassable last winter. In order to prevent a similar experience during the coming winter he said a good deal of repair metalling was necessary, and the work was of the greatest importance. The other councillors concurred, the opinion being expressed that the work of maintenance was of the utmost importance, and should be the medium of special attention on the part of the engineer.

The engineer was instructed to attend to the repairing of the road in question.
