A RESCINDED MOTION.
CLAIM ON BOROUGH. Some months ago when the pre liminary arrangements for installing the electric light plant at Te Kuiti were under consideration by the Borough Council it was thought that, in order to provide space for the power house it would be necessary to-acquire the section of land adjoining the council property in Taupiri street for the purpose. The council decided to take the ordinary steps to acquire the land under the Public Workß Act. and gave notice to the owner of the section to that effect. Subsequently it waß found that the additional space would not be required, and the council rescinded the motion bearing on the question of acquiring the land.
At Monday evening's meeting of the council a letter waa road from Mrs H. Mabbett, owner of the section, claiming from the council the amount of the outgoings on tho property for the term during which the council had the matter under consideration. The claimant stated that it was impossible for her to deal with the property in any manner after receiving notice from the council of the intention to acquire the section tho coun' cil was liable for tho outgoings for the period which was 239 days. In rent and rates the claim amounted to £l4 lis. The matter was referred to thj Legal and Finance Committee without discussion.
