TE KUITI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Te Kuiti Borough Council wa3 held on Monday evening last. Present—His Worship the Mayor, Cra Tammadge, Jones,

Somerville, Lusk, and Walsh. New Councillor. —Mr J. F. Lever was duly swurn in as councillor to fill (he caused by the resignation of Cr P. Floyd.

The Mayor extended a welcome to Cr Lever, his remarks being endorsed by Cr Somerville. Councillor's Resignation.—-Cr M. W. Forsyth wrote tendering his re signation as councillor. —The Mayor moved that the resignation be accepted with regret and that a motion recording the sense of Cr Forstyh's service for the borough be recorded on the minutes. Seconded by Cr Somervilln and carried.

Leave of absence was granted to Crs Fahvasaer and Julian.

Obstructing the Footpath. —Cr Tammadge wished to know if permission had been given to Messrs Green and Coiebrook to place a weighing machine on the footpath.—-The clerk said the police had given notice to have the obstructions removed.

Borough Reserve. —Cr Somerville drew attention to the fact that the borough had a reserve of two acres and suggestd that the council should cut it up and administer it under the Glasgow leas" : system. Resolved that the Works Committee and the engineer inspect the reserve and report. Travers' Subdivision. Messrs Broadfoofc and Finlay wrote enclosing cheque for £SO to cover cost of metaliing the lower road.' —Resolved that the dedication of the road be proceeded with at once, and the Mayor and Cr Jones were authorised to sign the deed. Christmas Day Entertainment.— The King Country Picture Co. applied for permission to hold a picture entertainment on Christmas night.—Application granted subject to the programme being submitted to the Mayor for approval.

Noxious Weeds.—A notice was received from the inspector"of noxious weeds with repeets to the clearing of blackberry and sweet brier from the quarry reserve and Esplanade. —Left in the hands of the engineer. Ministerial Visit. —The secretary of the Ghamber of "Commerce wrote asking the Borough Council to co-operate with the chamber in inviting the Native Ministr to visit Te Kuiti. —Resolved to co-operate with the Chamber of Commerce.

Engineer's Report. —I have to report that it has been found there is not sufficient work in the borough to warrant keeping a turncock in constant employment. I have therefore given Mr Edgar notice informing him that his services will not be required after the 28th inst lam making arrangements whereby the work will be carried out as required. In connection with the loan works, King street is progressing well. I have made arrangements for a start to be made with Ward street, Hill street and Duke street directly a'ter the new year. Ngatai street is now being formed and all drains and ditches are being cleared. The large stones on Tawa street and Mangaorinn road are being knapped and wtien done I propose putting on blinding from the river and rolling. Now that the new loan has been carried I would ask for authority to order the asphalt making plant as it will take three months for it to arrive here. —S. B. DODGE, Borough Engineer.

Asphalt Plant. —In respect to tha asphalt plant Cr Some'ville said he thought the matter of ordering should be left to the Finance Committee to decide when it was seen how far the negotiations for the loan had progressed. Ha moved to that effect. Cr Lusk seconded the motion which was carried.

Library Committee. —On the motion of Crs Lusk and Tammadge Cr Jones was appointed to the Library Committee in place of Cr Young resigned.
