OHURA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Ohura County Council was held in the Council Chambers on the 18th. Present — Crs Sanaison (chairman), Loveday, Risk, Kelly, Currie, Lyon, Hayward and Sowry.

Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows: From Public Works Department, stating that as soon as authority was issued, work on th« Tokirima road, leading to the Maraekowhai block would be proceeded with.

Kururau Road. —The assistant engineer wrote asking that the thirds promised by the settlers towards the erection of a biidge over the Kururau stream be paid to him when work would be at once proceeded with. Tungaporutu-Mangaroa Road. —The assistant road engineer has been instructed why the Under-Secretary for Lands to inform the chairman that, as through personal representations a definite sum was provided for a particular work, the Minister is of the opinion that any additional money required should be found by the council. —Resolved that the amount available be expended from the Mangaroa bridge end. Waikaka Road Thirds.—The schedule of thirds accrued previous to hypothecation was received for proposals for expenditure. Waitangata Road.—Plana of the bridge were received from the assistant engineer, Te Kuiti.—Plans approved with slight alterations. Matiere Found.—Mr G. Philips wrote correcting offer of paddock and yards for pound pointing out that his offer wss £l3 per six months, not twelve months. Matiere-Miroahuiao Road. —The secretary of the Northern Settlers' Association wrote asking the assistance of the council in urging the Public Works Department to put the road in repair to be in readiness for metalling.

Papa Burning.—Moved by Cr Lyon that the engineer be instructed to use all available thirds in the Matiere riding in burning papa to patch the worst part of Ralph's hill. Waitangata Bridge.—Moved by Cr Sandison that tenders be called for the erection of Waitangata bridge, also that the assistant engineer be urged to proceed with the erection of bridges on Waikaka road. Mangaroa River Metal.—Moved by Cr Loveday that the metal in the river be reserved for the county Council's use.—Carried.

Waitewhena.—Moved by Cr Risk that tenders be called for delivery of 200 yards metal to continue present metalling. Mangakara.—Moved by Cr Kelly that all thirds on the old Ohura road be expended on repairs. Tokirima Road.—Moved by Cr Currie that the engineer utilise all firewood cut on this road in burning papa. —Carried. Ohura Township. Moved by Cr Loveday that the Land Board be requested to hand over amount available to the council, and it be expended by the council in drainage as laid down in Messrs Metcalfe's scheme for sewerage.

Backblocks Association. —Moved by Cr Currie that the motion refusing to join the Backblocks' Association be revoked. —Carried. Moved by Cr Sowry that the council do join the Backblocks' Association.— Carried. A Contract Cancelled. —Mr Belsham waited on the council re his contract of papa burning —Resolved that contract be cancelled and tenders called for three contracts of 700 yards, 1000 yards, and 2000 yards.
