PUKEMAPU SETTLERS' ASSOCIATION.
At a recent meeting of the settlera, of Mahiihi, the above association was formed with tho object of fostering the interests of the settlement. Present —Messrs Armstrong, Swainßon, Prendergast, Lowe, Keating, Hosking, whilst apologies were deceived from Meass Evans and Shadwill. Mr J. Armstrong was elected chairman and Mr W. H. Swainson secretary. The actions of Mr Prendergast in inserting notice in the King Country Chronicls with reference to the proposed telephone installation to Mahiihi, and forwarding petition to the chief postmaster, were endorsed. The secretary was instructed to write to the chief postmaster, Auckland, pointing out that the reserve mentioned in the petition forwarded was the one most central and convenient, and the one desired by the overwhelming majority of the settlers. The amount required by the Government in connection with the cost of the erection of the telephone was subscribed subject to a suitable site being agreed upon by the departments. All communication concerning the ielephone to Mahiihi must pass through the secretary's hands.
