A CORRRRECTION.

The Editor. Sir, —In your report of the proceedings of the Borough Council meeting in last Wednesday's issue of the Chronicle, Mr Finlay is reported as follows:—"The Borough solicitor was waiting with a writ against Mr Travers for non-fulfilment of contract in one hand, and advising the Council ;o adopt a course which would prevent the contract being fulfilled." Whether Mr Finlay is correctly reported or not, I cannot say, but the statement is, at any rate, without foundation in fact, as I have never issued a writ against Mr Travers, nor have I ever contemplated doing so. On the contrary I gave some considerable assistance to Mr Travers in connection with his difficulty a few days previous to the Council meeting. On that occasion he called at my office, and said he had heard that I would advise the Council to accept a bond and asked me what, under the circumstances, he should do. I then told him that if he paid to the Council the estimated cost of the work, I would not advise the Council to refuse it if the matter were again referred to me. You will notice this suggestion was made to the Council and accepted.—l am, etc., H. HINUJ. The Editor. Sir, —In your report of the Council meeting held on Monday night, dealing with the Domain reserve, there seems a little misapprehension concerning my reasons for proposing the motion dealing with same. From remarks made it would seem as if I was acting solely on behalf of the Education Board. Nothing of the kind. There has never been the slightest communication from the board on the matter. I acted entirely in the interests of the children. If the matter is referred to the ratepayers, no doubt they will voice their opinion in no uncertain manner.—l am, etc., J. F. WALSH. (We are quite aware Mr Walsh made hia plea on behalf of the children. We endeavoured to make that point clear in the report. Ed. K.C.C.)
