THE LABOUR PROBLEM.
WORKERS LOYALTY DEMANDED. THE OATH OF ALLEGIANCE. At Monday evening's meeting of the Te Kuiti Borough Council a communication was received from the Waihi Borough Council suggesting the co-operation of local authorities in demanding that workers under the local bodies should be required to take the oath of allegiance and affirm their loyalty to the flag. It was pointed out that recent happenings at Waihi, such as the tearing of the Union Jack tjy angry strikers, necessitated caution in employing workers, and only those :jwho were loyal to the flag should be employed. The Council was urged to pass a resolution in the direction indicated. Cr Walsh supported the suggestion. He thought the principle should be affirmed. Cr Jones said he thought nothing should be done hastily. _ Nobody doubted their loyalty, but it a question as to whether the suggestion was advisable in their case. He thought the letter should be acknowledged and sympathy, expressed with the Waihi Council. Crs Julian and Somerville expressed similar sentiments, and it was decided to hold the matter over for discussion at next meeting.
