ROADING THE BOROUGH.
UNSUITABLE SUB-DIVISIONS. OUTLET FOR RIMU STREET. The matter of roading suburban sub-divisions in the Borough has frequently been discussed in the Borough Council, and the necessity for care in approving of plans submitted to the Council is exemplified in more than one instance. At Wednesday evening's meeting of the Borough Council a deputation waa introduced by Cr Somerville for the purpose of asking asisstance in acquiring a section and forming a road to give access from Rimu street to Tawa street. Cr Somerville said the roads of the sub-division had been taken over by the County Council before the borough was in existence, and the unsatisfactory nature of the roading had been the cause of considerable inconvenience and worry. Rimu street had no outlet at the town end, and residents in the street would have to travel round the Mangaoriuo road in order to get to town. At present foot passengers could take a short-cut through an unoccupied section and get through to Tawa street, but if this section Was built on they would be compelled to go round an extra distance of three-quarters of a mile. The residents desired tu purchase the section and have it dedicated as a road and requested the council to assist them. The councillors had visited the locality during the week, and personally, he was in favour of helping in the matter. Mr Donaldson, on behalf of the deputation said it was obvious a mistake had been made in laying off the streets in such a manner. He requested the council to make a grant to assist the residents.
The Mayor said he did not think the council would be justified in doing all the work and purchasing the section, but if the deputation would submit a aoncrete proposal he had no doubt it would be sympathetically considered by the council. Crs Walsh, Somerville and Julian spoke in a similar strain. Mr Donaldson said he had no doubt the residents would agree to purchase the section, providing the council would make the road. However, there were a number of absentee holders of sections, and it would be only fair to endeavour to get them to contribute. Those who were moving in the matter would endeavour to get into touch with all the interested parties and would again approach the council. The deputation thanked the cil and withdrew.
