OTOROHANGA TOWN COUNCIL.

Own Correspondent. The Otorohanga Town Council held their ordinary monthy meeting on November 4th at the council office. There were present Messrs, Elliott, Vicary, J. Ormsby, and J. Gardiner. Mr E'liott was voted to the chair. A letter was received from the Health Department recommending the board to install a sanitary service without delay as the summer season was drawing near.- —Messrs Vicary and Ormsby were appointed to look for a suitable site, and in the meantime the council are to call for applications to remove the night soil, and to provide a temporary ground. Resignation of Chairman. —Mr T. G. Hosking wrote resigning his position as chairman, and also as councillor, as he found he had not the time to devote to the council. —All the councillors spoke eulogistically in reference to the work Councillor Hosking had done, and in accepting his resignation, placed upon the council books their appreciation of his services. Draining the Domain. —The Domain Board asked the Town Board to proceed with the draining of the swamp in front of the domain so that wors may be proceeded with in the domain. —lt was decided to inform the Domain Board that the Town Board intended to carry out improvements in Hinewai street very shortly. Half-holiday.—ln response to a request from the Chamber of Commerce it was decided to make application to have the Town Board gazetted as a separate budy under the Shops and Offices Act, so that the Town Council would then have the regulating ot the weekly half-holiday. Building Permits.—The following permits w£re granted, subject to the approval of plans by the Works Committee: —A dwelling house for Mr J. C. Clark, builder; a police station and residence; a courthouse; a verandah to barber's shop. Noxious Weeds.—lf not already gazetted it was decided to gazette blackberry, gorse, Californian thstle, ragwort and briar as noxious weeds within the township boundary. Engineer. —The engineer attended j the meeting, and produced plans of a | concreet culvert for Rangitahi street, j Maniapoto Street.—lt was decided J to pay Mr Rothery the balance of his j contract price, with the exception that £lO is to be deducted to finish off several minor matters. Horses on Footpaths.—The police are to be requested to take action if they observe anyone with horses upon the various footpaths.
