TE KUITI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

LOAN PROPOSAL RESCINDED A special meeting of the Te Kuiti Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening to again consider the loan proposals. There were present his Worship the Mayor (Mr E. H, Hardy), Crs Floyd, Jones, Somerville, Walsh and Julian. Leave of absence was granted to Crs Lusk and Falwasser, who both wrote expressing their views on the loan proposal. Cr Lusk wrote to the effect that inasmuch as two meetings of ratepayers had affirmed the principle of only borrowing such amount as could be judiciously and economically expended wiitbin the year the placing of alternative proposals before the ratepayers to vote on would seem only a means to evade carrying out the wishes of the ratepayers. Cr Falwasser wrote, expressing the opinion that the motion carried at the public meeting should be given effect to by the council. Cr Jones, in supporting the motion rescinding the loan proposal for £21,000 of which he had given notice at last meeting, said he did so not bocause he was against the amount of the loan, but as the proposal stood it was not in such a state that it would be acceptable to any financial institution. The council was practically agreed as to the chief works, such as the main street, water supply, and river diversion, and he trusted due attention would be given to those roads leading from town to country. Cr Somerville seconded the motion. While on his feet he would take the opportunity of saying he hoped no bickering or outside talk would be indulged in. There had been too much of that sort of thing, and he considered personal references of every sort should be rigidly tabooed. Crs Walsh and Julian endorsed the previous speakers remarks. The motion was put and carried unanimously, and the council went into committee to consider fresh loan proposals.
