BOROUGH COUNCIL VACANCY.
MR MOSTYN JONES ELECTED
The poll for an election of councillor to fill the vacancy on the Te Kuiti Borough Council caused by the resignation of Cr D. J. Young, was held on Thursday. Two nominations had been received for the nosition, the candidates being Messrs Mostyn Jones and F. Lever. Mr F. Lamb, town clerk, was returning officer, being assisted by Mr J. Tammadge. The poll closed at 7 p.m., and shortly after that hour the result was delivered as follows: — Mostyn Jones ••• 89 F. Lever 73 Informal 2 After the poll was declared three cheers were called for each candidate and were heartily given by the assembled electors. Mr Mostyn Jones, the successful candidate, in a short speech, thanked those who had accorded him support, and said he trusted to justify the confidence which the ratepayers had bestowed on him. It was probably well known that he was in favour of the loan proposals of the present council, -aQ<d considered the poll, which was onlV sik days distant, should be taken. That seemed the common sense way of discovering the wishes of the rate payer 3.
