In a recent issue of the Chronicle some verseß on "The Roads" .were published, dealing with the sufferings of animals and men. The author omitted to make mention of the women of the backblocks, and has forwarded an additional stanza and a sequel which will be read with appreciation by all backblockers: But the women, ah, the women those who keep the house together, Who are house-bound half the year by the roads, not by the weather. Though they strive men's hearts to cheer Yet in secret shed a tear O'er their social isolation through the roads SEQUEL TO THE RHYME OF THE ROADS Then said every M.P. "this is shocking, if true. "When the session is over these road we must view, "When the summer is come, and the weather is fair, "And the dust is about, and the mud is not there! —We'll be there."
