SAD DROWNING FATALITY.

THREE CHILDREN DROWNED. ALL OF ONE FAMILY. Paeroa, Saturday. A very sad fatality occurred abont 4.30 p.m. to-day at the junction of the Waihou and Ohineinuri rivers, three children of Mr Edward Shaw, assis-tant-engineer to the Ohinemuri County Council, losing their lives by drowning.

It appears that the three children Mary aged 13, Kenny aged VI, and Jack aged 9 together with a boy named Fortoscuo Moresby aged 15,

went out. in a small boat at the

junction, and after rowing about for a while attenmpted to hoist a sail. The wind was blowing at the time in strong gusts, one of which caught the sail and overturned the boat, throwing the children into the water.

The accident was seen by a Maori boy, Who ran off at once to Mr Shaw'fl house, which was close at hand. Mr Shaw ran to the river bank, and seeing Moresby clinging Id the bottom of the boat, plunged in and brought him to shore. By this lime, however nothing was to be i-eeu of his own three children.

A large party, under Constable Miles, commenced dragging operations, and recovered two of tho three bodies.
