The N.Z. Loan and. Mercantile Agency Co., report: — On Thursday we held a sale of dairy stock at Te Awamutu, when we submitted 200 springing heifers on account of Mr F. McGovern, 100 Shorthorn heifers for other'breeders, and three herds of dairy cows. The line of heifers being Jersey and Holstein cross carefully selected in Taranaki last season, were very choice, and one of the best lots ever offered in the Waikato, and elicited keen competition, all being sold under the hammer. Prices: Holstein heifers well forward in calf £9 15s to £IJ, 10s, Jersey heifers £8 10s to £9 17s 6d, others a trifle later £7 5? to £B, Shorthorn heifers £6 15s to £8 10s, more backward £5 12s 6d to £6 ss, dairy cows, whole herd on account of Mr G. Wellington £9 10s to £l3 ss, two herds from Pukeatua £6 to £7 15s. The Farmers' Auctioneering Co., report as follows: — At the Hamilton yards on August Ist we had an entry of 1589 sheep, chiefly fat, 25 pigs and 1020 head of cattle, every yard and adjoining paddocks being in use. There was a keen demand, and prices for all . fat and store cattle showed an advance; forward dairy cows and heifers also were required, but, owing to the yard accommodation being used for store cattle, we could not do the dairy stock justice, and a number were held over, there not being time to offer them. We quote:—Weaner pigs 7s to 15s, slips 19s to 31s, fat wethers 20s to 25s 9d, fat ewes 14s 8d to 19s, far and forward hoggets 14s to 16s, ewes in lamb 14s to 18s, medium eight wellfattened steers £lO to £ll 15s, light weights £8 15s to £9 10s, fat cows and heifnrs £5 15s to £8 16s, fresh and forward bullocks £7 7s 6d to £9, fresh empty cows £4 10s to £5 ss, store cows up to £4 10s, two year empty heifers £3 17s 6d to £4 16s, strong calves and yearlings £2 12s 6d to £3, smaller sorts 30s to 40s, two year steres £4 10s to £5 7s 6d, 18 months steers £6 19s to, £4 2s, best dairy cows £8 5a to £lO, forward heifers in calf to £B, backward cows I and heifers £5 5s to £6 10s.
