MR MALCOLMS' BILL DEFEATED
Mr Malcolm's Licensing Act Amendment Bill providing .that the next and every subsequent poll the majority requirjd to determinu any question submitted to the electors should be 55 per cent., was discussed in Parliament on Thursday. After the Bill had been well reviewed it was defeated by 42 votes against 32. One of the most significant utterances that have been made on the question of local option was made by Mr A. M. Myers in the House on Thursday. Speaking on the suggested bare majority Mr Myers said the present position was intolerable. Be c6nsidered the local option vote should be altered in order to give the people the opportunty of voting on the-question of State or Municipal Control. He advocated the setting up of a commission composed of members from both sides of the House to deal with the question on its merits
