THE KAWHIA RAILWAY.
DEPUTATION TO WELLINGTON. TRIAL SURVEY PROMISED. By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent. Wellington, Friday. When the Hon. W. Fraser, Minis- j ter of Public Works visited Te Kuiti last week, it was intended that a number of Kawhia residents should wait upon the Minister with the object of requesting that a trial survey of the projected railway between Kawhia and the Main Trunk line should be made- In view or the Minister s short stay and the large amount of business placed before him it was decided that the deputation should deferthe matter, and proceed to Weiiigton to interview the Minister on the subject. The Minister arranged to receive the deputation on Thursday. The deputation, consisting of Messrs Shaw Jonathan, Ormsby, Morris, Fairfax, Jackson and Haylock, was introduced by Messrs C. K. Wilson and J. A. Young, members for Taumarunui and Waikato respectively. Messrs Shaw, Jonathan and Ormsby spoke on behalf of the deputation and were accorded a splendid reception. Mr Fraser definitely promised that a trial survey would be put hand before next session. The Minister hopes to have a definite scheme regarding construction to lay before the House by this time next year.
