COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL.

TRIBUTE TO MR A. V. SNADDEN A very pleasant function was held in the Te Kuiti Borough Hall on Monday evening, when a complimentary

social was tendered to Mr A. V. I Snadden, in view of his approaching I marriage. Mr E. H. Hardy, Mayor, presided, and the representative

nature of the gathering was an eloquent manifestation of the esteem in which Mr Snadden is held in town and district. The toast of "Our Guest" was proposed in a neat speech by Mr J. R. Graham, who voiced the feelings of Mr Snadden's many friends in paying a high tribute to the guest's sterling qualities of intellect and heart in business and in social life. Messrs Hardy, Martin, Scholes, Floyd, Moorhouse, Pine, Lorigan, Darrow, Jones and Youren also spoke to the toast. Mr Youren, as successor to Mr Snadden in the management of the Te Kuiti branch of the Union Bank, paid a high tribute to the work accomplished by Mr Snadden for the Bank at Te Kuiti. He said that in view of the good work accomplished, the Bank authorities had under consideration a proposal to give special and tangible recognition to the fact. He expressed regret that Mr Snadden was severing his connection with (he bank, and said that regret was shared ny all who had a knowledge of the guest's abilities. Mr Snadden, in responding to the toast, expressed his gratitude to his friends for their kind expressions, and said that although he was leaving the Bank he was pleased to say he was remaining at Te Kuiti. The "Bride Elect" was proposed by Dr Fullerton, who bore testimony to the high esteem with which Miss Pine was regarded in the community. The toast was given with musical honours, and responded in suitable terms by Mr Pine and Mr Snadden. Other toasts honoured were "The Benedicts," Mr Moorhouse Messrs Somerville, Broadfoot end Gadsby; "The Bachelors," Mr Walsh —Messrs Westmacott and Simmons; "The Pioneers," Mr Finlay—Messrs Scholes, Pine and Jordan; "The Banking Autocracy," Mr Lorigan—Messrs Kelso and Youren; "The Ladies," Mr A. B. JordanMessrs Brittain and Morgan; "The Press," Mr Floyd—Mr Steel. The following items were rendered during the evening:—Songs by Messrs Snadden and Dr Fullerton, duet, Messrs Price, Branson, Kirk and P. Cotter; recitations by Messrs Brittain and Westmacott. Mr Branson presided at the piano in his usual masterly style.
