The Farmers' Auctioneering Company report: — At Morrinsville on 26th inst., we had an entry of 2051 sheep and 388 head of cattle. Competition was very brisk, and the whole yarding was disposed of. Prices for all classes of sheep and fat cattle were higher than at any previous sale we have held this winter. Fat wethers made 21s to 235, forward wethers 16s to 20b, fat ewes 15s 6d to 17s 9d, forward ewes 13s 9d, fat hogget 15s 6d to 16s 6d, store hoggets 13s 4d to 15s Id, fat steers £9 5s to £lO 7s, fat cows £5 10s'to £8 15s, yearling steers and heifers £2 15s to £3 ss, dairy heifers of which there was a large entry best and most forward £7 5s to £lO, backward heifers £5 to £6 10s, dairy cows £5 15s to £8 ss.
At Tirau on Wednesday last we had only a moderate yarding of cattle but a good entry of sheep. All classes of stock met with keen competition and sold at increased rates. Fat steers made £lO to £lO 12s 6rt, fat cows £5 13s to£7, forward cows £4 14s to £5, fresh condition 2£ to 3 year steer £7 to £7 3s, Jersey-Holstein heifers in calf £5 7s 6d to £9 ss, Shorthorn heifers £5 6s, yearling steers £3 2s, calves in low condition 30s to 375, dairy cows £6 5s to £8 15s, older and backward cows £5 to £5 15s, springing heifers £6 to £7 12s 6d. Of the 1350 sheep penned heavy fat wethers made22s 6d, others 19s 9d, fat ewes 16s to 20s, hoggets 12s to 13s 7d, ewes in lamb 13s 6d to 15s 9d.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE, Wellington, Monday.
The High Commissioner's cablegram, dated London, July 27th, is as follows, quotations unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot:— The strike has unsettled deliveries, which are still restricted.
Mutton. —The market is quiet, but rather steadier. There has been no change in picres—viz., North Island 3|d, Canterbury 4&d. Lamb. —The market is slightly weaker, with les3 demand. Holders are anxious to sell, as supplies are increasing. Canterbury s§d to 6Jd, according to quality, other than Canterbury sgd to 5Jd. Beef. —The market is weak and inactive. Supplies of River Plate are heavy. New Zealand hindquarters 4d, fores-3|d. Butter. —The market is firm, with better demand. New Zealand is firmly held in second hands. Choicest New Zealand Xl6s, Australian , 107s, Siberian 106s, Danish 1255. Cheese. —The market is rather more active. New Zealand white 65s 6d, coloured 66s 6d.
Hemp.' —The market is very firm, there being a scarcity of best quality. Spot New Zelaand good fair £26, fair £24; fair current Manila £24; forward shipment July-September at the same prices. The output from Manila for the week was 44,000 bales. Wheat. —The market is dull, with very little business doing. Oa*s. —The market is quiet, and prices are slightly weaker. Peas. —The market is steady, but the demand is only moderate. Beans.—The market is irregular, without business.
New Zealand grain is not at present in store.
Cocksfoot Seed.—The market is quiet. Buyers are not keen to do business. .
