TE AWAMUTU REQUIREMENTS.
A daputation consisting of representatives of the Te Awamutu Town Boards and the Chamber of Commerce was introduced by Mr J. A. Young, M.P. Mr Bockett explained that when the Teasdale settlement was opened by the Government the land was loaded for roading hut no provision had been made for footpaths. They requested that a grant should be made for the purpose of making footpaths.
It would be unfair to rate the residents for the work. There were some Government sections yet unsold which had increased enormously in value. The Minister promised to represent the matter to the Minister for Lands. The fact that the Government still had sections to sell seemed to him a strong argument. Mr 8. Matthews urged that a trial survey of a railway from Te Awamutu to Kawhia shoulud be made. Mr Fraser said there was no line authorised yet. Before such a thing could be dona trial surveys would have to he made and the line of most benefit to the Dominion would be adopted. Every shilling that couid be spared just now was required for roads and bridges. Mr Wallace urged the taking of a road through native country from Te Puhi station to the Puniu bridge, a distance of about a mile. The Minister promised to look into the matter and would accede to the request if possible.
