PRESENTATION TO MISS MELLING.

It was with great regret that the friends of Mrs and Miss Melling felt obliged to abandon all hope of holding the farewell social to them on Wednesday night. The heavy rain in the afternoon caused such a flood in King street that it was impossible to reach S f . Luke's Church Hall. By the kind permission of the Chief Postmaster, Auckland, Miss Melling had been able to return to Te Kuiti for the evening and it was the intention of St. Luke's choir and Sunday school to present to Mrß and Miss Melling some token of the esteem in which they are held. For many years they have been closely connected with all church work in Te Kuiti. The late Mr Melling was the first layreader in the place and continued this work until his last illness obliged him to give it up. The first Sunday scho,ol was held in his house, and for many years Mrs and Miss Melling have been valued members of St. Luke's choir. Therefore, there 1 were many old friends who were anxious to take this opportunity of saying good-bye and wishing Mrs and Melling all happiness in their future life. As, however, the weather prevented this, the presentation was made quietly at the railway station on Thursday morning where a -number of friends gathered to take leave of Mrs and Miss Melling.
