ROADING THE DISTRICT.
AN OTOROHANGA SCHEME. For some time past the people in the Kid Kio district have had under consideration the matter of metalling the road from the Kio Kio'Junction to Otorohanga. On Saturday last Messrs Wylie and Wallace on behalf of the, settlers met Mr Scholes (county chairman) and Mr Mora (cierk) at Otornbanga and discussed the matter. After consideration it was decided that ipT order to place the scheme on a sound footing and distribute the responsibility over the proper area it was necessary to enlarge the scheme considerably. It was eventually, agreed that Mr Mora should prepare a plan setting forth the boundaries, and the roads proposed to be metalled. The plan has now - been completed and Bhows that it will be desirable to include a portion of the West Taupo County in <the. special area. The roads which it is proposed to metal include the Puketarata, Kio Kio, Otorohanga«Kihikibi, and Maraeohihe, the whole distance aggregating about thirteen miles. The cost of the work per mile should not be great, as river gravel will be available for metal. It is: intended to apply fo** a subsidy, and if this is granted it will be necessary to raise by way of loan a sum of about £4500,. Considering the amount of metalling in the scheme and the value it will be to a large district, there should be no hesitation on the part of the settlers interested in coming to a decision. On the'face of things a scheme which provides metalled roads at a cost of £350 a mile, as far as the settlers are concerned, is one not to be lightly passed by.
