OTOROHANGA.

Gjne of most, enjoyable socials of the season was held at Otorohanga on June 26th in aid of the Roman Catholic building fund. A euchre party was a feature of the evening upwards of 29 taking part in the vari ous sets. During the evening music was supplied by Mrs Holden and Miss Mooney and was highly appreciated. The bulk of th 9 work on the floor fell to Mr W. Worthington. who did yeoman service. Visitors, were present from Te Kuiti, Kio Kio and Kihikihi. Supper was served by the ladies. Mrs Forster and Mr Worthington rendered great service, and were assisted by the gentelmen present, a feature of . the evening being the voluntary efforts of the latter to make things pleasant for all present. PIO PIO. A basket social in aid of the Roman Catholic Church funds was held in the Pio Pio Town Hall on June 28th. Despite the unfavourable' weather and the bad state of the roads there was a considerable gathering and ,a highly enjoyable time was spent. Excellent music was supplied by Messrs Lindsay Bros, and Mr W. Power kept things moving with' a swing. The floor was in fine order and Mr J. Slynes made a highly efficient M.C.

THE RACEHORSE THEFTS

SOULTORIA FOUND.

[by telegraph.—press association.] Auckland, Monday.

The racing mare Soultoria, which was stolen from Mr Roulston's stables at Pukekohe, has been discovered at Te Rau-a-Moa. According to report, it appears that she. followed two riders travelling from Waitomo to Te Rnu-a-Moa, dropping them some distance from the settlement. The equestrian informed Mr S. Stewart, boardinghouse proprietor, that a wellbred. clipped mare was on the road, and he immediately Becured and cared for the animal, apprising Constable Wade of the circumstance by telephone. As the mare answered, the telegraphed description of Soultoria, Constable Wade left Kawhia and took possession, leaving this morning for Te Awamutu to entrain the racehorse for bar Pukekohe bom*. Nothing has yet transpired as to how the animal was conveyed to the Waitomo district.
