WEST TO EAST RAILWAY.
ADVOCATED AT KAWHIA.
DEPUTATION TO WELLINGTON.
Mr Mostyn Jones, secretary of Te Kuiti Chamber of Commerce, returned early this week from Kawhia, where he had been attending the conference in connection with the proposed railway from Kawhia to the Main Trunk line. In conversation with a Chronicle representative Mr Jones said he had experienced a most enjoyable time. He was considerably impressed with the district between the Main Trunk and Kawhia, which undoubtedly had great potentialities. As to the conference he was greatly pleased at the absence of parochial feeling in connection with the matter of the proposed railway. The remit from Te Kuiti that the proposed connection with the Main Trunk should be made the first instalment of a Weßt to East Trunk line from Kawhia to Napier through the heart of the North Island met with general approbation though stich a big undertaking had not apparently been thought of by those interested. Mr Jones was emphatic about the claims of the larger scheme, and dwelt upon the manifold advatage to be derived from a national point of view in carrying out such a work. A deputation from the various centres was arranged to proceed to Wellington about the middle of next month, and he hoped the West to East Trunk line would then be strongly advocated.
