. Q AUSTRALIA v. LANCASHIRE. By Telegraph.—Press Association.— Copyri,rial London. Sunday. The match, Australia v. Lancashire, resultted in a win for the county by 20 runs. j AUSTRALIA v. SURREY. SURREY FIRST INNINGS 190. London, Monday. The Australian eleven commenced its return match with Surrey at the Oval to-day. The weather was threatening, and the attendance only moderate, while the wicket was soft. Minnett, Webster, Whitty and MacLaren stood out of tne Australian team. Bird won the toss and decided to make first use of the wicket opening with Hayward and Hobbs, to the bowling of Hazlitt and Emery. Hayward batted 55 minutes for 21 and was caught at mid on by Emery off Matthews. Fifty runs appeared for 05 minutes' play and ten runs later Hobbs, playing fowarrd, was smartly stumped by Carkeek off Matthews. Hayes and Ducat saw the century raised in 115 minutes, and at lunch the score was two wickets for 110. Hayes, who was then 34. was badly missed by Bardsley at point when eight off Matthews. Ducat was 21, made by watchful cricket and good off-driving. The bowling was not up to the standard, and none of the men tried kept a good length. On resuming the attendance • was 3000. Emery and Hazlitt bowled, and in the latter'a second over Ducat's middle \va3 uprooted. He batted 50 minutes for his 21. Hayes was out leg before in Emery's third over. Abel scored a single, and then Hazlitt knocked his middle stump down. Five for 135. The remaining five added 53. In the later portion of the innings the wicket was faster. Hitch, running out to Hazlitt, \,as easily stumped by Carkeek. He batted soundly and confidently. The innings lasted 210 minutes. Kelleway and Jennings opened Australia's first innings, Hitch and Smith bowling. In the last ball of the latter'a second over, Kelleway hit up a skier and was caught. Macartney was caught at the wickets by Strudwick, who was standing back. Jennings and Ba.dsley were asso ciated when rain stopped play at 5.15, stumps being drawn without further play. Following are the scores: Surrey, first innines. Hayward 21, Hobbs 30, Hayes 38, Ducat 21, Bird 17, Abel 1, Myers 2, Hitch 25, Struwdick 6, Smith 16. Rushby 2, sundries 11 total 190. Bowling ' analysis: Hazlit five for 59, Emery one for 49, Matthews four for 30, Kelleway none for 17, Macartney none for 4. Received June 19, 9.5 a.m. London, Tuesday. Australia made 109 in the first innings Kellewav 8, Jennings 32, Macartney 15, Bardsley 9, Gregory 4, Mayne 4, Matthews 0, Smith 13, Hazlitt 5, Emery 10, Carkeek 3, sundries 6—total 109. Surrey in the second innings made 247 Hayward 25, Hobbs 76, Hayes 40, being principal scorers. Australia had scored 27 without loss when stumps were drawn. AFRICA v. SOMERSET. London, Monday. The match between the South Africans and Somerset had to be postponed owing to rain. Received June 19, 9.15 a.m. London, Tuesday. The South Africa v. Somerset match was commenced to day.
