MAROKOPA.

Own Correspondent,

An enjoyable and willing game of football was played on the Ist. This being the first game of the season a scratch match, led by Captain Barlow and vice captain Cootes respectively, took the field. In spite of the rough weather the game continued till dark ness fell. The spectators were rewarded by some neat play from G. Richards, Parr, Read, Iti and others, though the tendency to kick the leather instead of passing was much in evidence. Tries were scored by H. Richards, Pau, Barlow and Thos. Partridge. The team lead by Barlow was victorious, the scores being 9 to 5. Only one goal was kicked, M. Bell succeeding in converting the try scored by his side. On Saturday nexl a rowing contest for the Willison Cup and a football match to follow, is announced.

At a meeting of footballers, held in the billiard ante-room after the football match the resolutions passed at an informal meting held previously were confirmed. Mr Honore presided, and stated that they were asked to approve of choice of officers, etc., made. It was pleasing to note that most of the old club offiicals had been chosen, a principle he would support if possible at all times. The football field was the place for each and all to distinguish themselves, and he hoped all would work together for the promotion of the good old Rugby game, which was popular wherever athletes met. The following is the new club: President, Mr John Willison; vicepresident Messrs E. C. Stanley, R. Brett, G. Lunie. G. Bridgman, G. H. Chase, J. Forbes, Waamu, and Artie Huirama; captain, Rima Barlow; vice-captain.. R. Cootes; secretary and treasurer, J. Paterson; committtee, Messrs R. Honore, T. Gles, L. Klein, D. Wiley and R. Brett; selection committee, Messrs R. Barlow and R. Honore; referee, Mr F. W. Bell. It was resolved on the motion of Messrs Read and Morgan that matches be held every alternate Saturday, dating from June Ist. A firstclass ball, presented by Mr R. Brett, was accepted with thanks.
