Newton King reports:—

On May 30th, I had a good attendance at Mr A. P. Hughe's clearing sale at Riverlea. The majority of the cow 3 were low in condition, realising from £7 to £9 5s for best, others £3 10s to £6 ss, dray and harness £25, heifers £5 Is to £6.

At Bell Block on May 31st, for Mr E. Westwood's clearing sale there was a very larg9 attendance. Good quriliity cows were very keenly competed for and realised from £lO to £l4, late salvers £4 10s to £9, threequarter cows £4 to £5 10s, some nice 2 year Jersey heifers from £8 to £lO, small £6 to £6 15s, store pigs 30a. On June Ist I held my monthly horse fair, when, owing to the exceptionally rough day, many of the horses intended did not arrive. Competition was anything but keen, the sale being no the slack side throughout, I quote —Half-draughts £l7 to £2l harness horses £lO 5-3 to £l6, upstanding hacks £ll to £l4, hacks £3 to £6 12s 6d, pair ponies £25 10s, Cortland waggon £34. At Rahotu on 4th inst., owing to the wretched weather 1 had only a small entry, a lot of advertised cattle not being yarded. Some good heifers were oenned, meeting with very keen competition at advanced rates. Grade Holstein yearling heifers from £3 6s 6d to £3 8s 6d, others £1 14s to £2 14s, steers 24s to 36s 6d, store cows £2 lis to £3, forward cows £3 9s to £3 lis.
