THE POLITICAL SITUATION.
The Wellington correspondent of the New Zealand Herald telegraphed on Thursday as follows: It is pretty confidently estimated in well-informed political circles that Mr Millar will definitely vote with Mr Massey. As to whether the late Minister for Labour will carry a portfolio is anuther question, owing to his illhealth, for which he has been ordered rest; but, assuming that he would be prepared to do so a place in the Cabinet, it is stated, would be found for him.
As to the High Commissionership, the idea is growing that the Hon. Thos. Mackenzie wili get the position if he elects to take it. Should he do so, it is not thought probable that Mr Massey would object. The Post to-night says no one in Wellington believes that the Mackenzie Government can last for a week, when Parliament meets, and that if Mr Massey, as Prrne Minister, can weather the storm of the first session he will doubtless last out the full term of the Parliament. Labour states openly that it does not want a dissolution—that it wants the three yearsParliamentary term to refurnish its exchequer, and perfect its organisation—and none of the other members have any desire for a new election campaign.
