OTOROHANGA TOWN COUNCIL.
Own Correspondent
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Otorohanga Town Council was held in the Council's office. PresentMessrs T. Hosking (chairman), J. Ormsby, VV. Vicary and C. Elliott.
It was decided that copies of all outward correspondence should be kept and the clerk was authorised to procure a suitable manifold book for that purpose.
Mr C Miller wrote asking to be allowed to drain his section across the road and into a lagoon.—The matter was deferred until next meeting to allow the site to be inspected. A letter was received from the Chamber of Commerce asking the council to get the door of the public hall altered so that they should be opened outwards. Request acceded to. Mr Rothery's tender for extending the metal from the end of Maniapoto street to the Waipa bridge was considered too high and was not accepted. Works Committee. Messrs Vicary and J. Ormsby were appointed a Works Committee.
Finance Committee. Messrs Hosking, Elliott and Gardiner were appointed a Finance and Legal Committee.
It was proposed by Messrs Vicary and Ornisby that the balance of work in the way of road formation and culverts be put in hand at once, and that the engineer be instructed to prepare plant and get-out estimates. On the motion of Mr Vicary the clerk was instructed to write to the chairman Waitomo County Council stating that the intention of the Otorohanga Board is to improve the Kakamutu road, same being part of the mani road to Kio Kio, and that the County Council should be asked to bear half the expense. Permits. —It was decided to grant boarding house permits to Miss Hunter and Mr W. Clayton subject to the inspector's* approval. A billiard room license was applied for by S. Cribb, and it was decided to grant the application. A building permit was granted to Mr G. Reynolds. An application from K. Corban for permission to alter his building was granted. Subsidy.— lt was proposed that a special endeavour should be made to collect all rates possible by June 30th, 1912, as that enables the board to get a subsidy from the Government. All outstanding rates are to be charged 10 per cent, after that date. Hall Site.— ln reply to tbe Chamber uf Commerce Mr Ormsby stated that he had been unable to see the owners of the suggested sites and consequently had no prices to submit. Health Department.— The council have passed a resolution that they will donate the sum of £lO per annum. Notices of Motion. — The following notices of motion were given: — Cr Ormsby: That a general rate of ljd be struck for the ensuing year. Mr Ormbsy: Notice to bring forward a proposition dealing withunhealthy and unstable buildings. MrHosking: To bring forward at next meeting a proposition to deal with sanitation. New Valuation. Proposed by Messrs Ormsby and Elliott, that the Valuation Department b" asked to authorise a fresh valuation of Otorohanga township. In reply to a letter from Mr Cook in reference to the road in front of his section, the council stated that the matter is in the engineer's hands.
