TE KUITI DEBATING SOCIETY.
The question as to whether New Zealand was wise in adopting compulsory military training was debated by the members of the Te Kuiti Debating Society on Thursday evening. Major Lusk presided and there was a good attendance, considerable interest being manifested in the discussion. Mr E. Martin took the affirmative and Mr J. H. Trinnear the negative.
The majority of those present took part in the debate, among others being the Revs. Wayne and Armstrong, and Messrs Young, Alexander, Elliott, Walsh, Turner, Graham and Langston.
At the conclusion a vote was taken the affirmative side securing a substantial majority.
Next Thursday the second sitting of Parliament will be held at the Municipal Hall when the Government will introduce some measures foreshadowed in th*? Governor's speech. A Defence Bill will be brought down by the Hon. J. Wall and the Hon. R. M. Somerville will introduce a Land Bill.
