BURGLARY AT TE KUITI.

CHURCHES BROKEN INTO.

Evidence is available that Te Kuiti has recently been subject to the attention of some of the fraternity known as the "light-fingered gentry." Last Tuesday night the Presbyterian Church was broken into, entrance being effected through a window from which the wire netting protection was torn. When the fact was discovered next day it was seen that cupboards had been forced and collection boxes opened. The thieves unfortunately were rewarded by discovering the proceeds of the last three Sunday school collections in the boxes. On Thursday evening the Roman Catholic Church was entered by unwelcome visitors, and considerable damage was done to the altar. Boxes were broken open, but the burglars were not rewarded for their trouble as no money had been left in the church. The police are investigating the matter, but so far no clue has been obtained to the perpetrators.
