ROADS ADMINISTRATION.

Considerable dissatisfaction is being manifested by settlers in the Awakino County by reason of the fact that the administration of roads lias been transferred from the To Kuui district to New Plymouth. It is just about a year since that district was transferred to Te Kuiti much to the general satisfaction of all for the reason they considered that the New Flymouth office had the tendency of making the roads in the direction of Taranaki. This, settlers in the northern part, where the majority are and closer settlement prevails, resent, greatly. They consider that, their interests are in the direction of the Main Trunk line, and that the carrying out of the work would be more easily accomplished. A case in point is the Mangakakopu road, on which, since its original formation some seven years ago very little work has been done. This portion of the road is a necessity, and should be opened for vehicular traffic. A number of petitions have been forwarded in connection with the matter, but seem to have been ignored. The , forming of this road would link up ; the coast with this district, and I would serve a large and valuable ; area of Crown lands, as well as be- j ing of great convenience to a largo , number of settlers.
