LIGHTING TE KUITI.
THE ELECTRICAL SCHEME
ENGINEERS' REPORT,
At Monday night's meeting of the Te Kuiti Borough Council the report furnished by Mr S. Irwin Crookes, the well-known expert, on an electric lighting scheme for Te Kuiti was received. The report goea very completely into the details of a suitable scheme for the town having in view the requirements both for street lighting, power, and household purposes. The estimated cost of installing a plant with suction gas engine, having six miles of mains and one hundred and fifty connections, is £5390. A similar installation with Diesel oil engSn° instead of suction gas is estimated to cost £5900. Mr Crookes suggests calling alternative tenders for the above plants before arriving at an absolute decision as to which would be preferable to install. After discussing the report it was resolved on the motion of Crs Forsyth and Young that the matter bo left in the hands 01 Mr Crookes to prepare plans and specifications and call for alternative tenders lor the system which he considers the most suitable for Te Kuiti.
In view of the recommendation to secure further space for the establishing of the plant it was decided on the motion of Cr3 Somerville and Julian to take immediate steps to acquire the adjoining section in Tauptri street, under the Public Works Act.
