At a meeting of Wellington Liberal it was unanimously resolved to deputationiße Sir Joseph Ward and express regret at his resignation and request him to retain the leadership of the Liberal party. A similar resolution was passed at Auckland, Te Puke, Otorohanga, Waharoa, Matamata, Kaeo, Rangiwahia, Patea, and Stratford.
