A MAORI MEETING.

GATHERING AT WAAHI,

The summons to hia followers by "King" Mahuta to attend a meeting at Waahi, was not largely obeyed until Monday, when a large contingent from Kawhia, Ragaln, Waikato Heads, Otorohanga Te Kuiti, and other part-3 of the King Country arrived by train. Their arrival in the pa was acknowledged wtih the usual profuse greeting. As far as can be learned, the agenda will be: 1. To deal with the lands handed in to the Stout-Ngata Commission of 1909, such lands having been handed over by individual owners without the consent oc the majority oi; the owner?, who are determined to oppose the appointment of these for sale or lease, by any Native Land Board, as their desire J3 to farm and utilise the lands in their own interests.

'2. The reaflirmation of the previous agreements by which lands were handed over to Mahuta for appointment under the following headings: (a) Vov individualization; (b) for native occupation; (c) for lease; (d) for sale to Government at an equitable valuation, or failing receipt of a just, equivalent, the right to offer such hy public tender; and (e) for the purposes of the man a.

o. To deal with lands taken as scenic reserves.

•1. To oppose and object to the sale by the Native L:md Board of certain areas set JcMde for, and gazetted as, papakaingu, ,\vhich, though the sale has been completed, are still held by the owner 3, who refuse to leave them. o. To consider the expenses of such meetings, and how to limit similar expenditure, some £T>OOO having been expended on such meetings during the past four years. 6. The formation by Mahuta, Henare Kaihau and Tupu Taingakawa of a plan which wili lead to a final and speedy settlement of the whole question. Sir James Carroll has been invited to attend the meeting, and a reply is ar.xiously awaited.
