OBITUARY.

Mr William Armstrong, Commissioner of Crown Lands for the Taranaki district, died suddenly last week after an apoplectic seizure. The deceased, who was 53 years of age, joined the service in 1876. He became Commissioner of Crown Lands and chief surveyor of Taranaki district in May last. Mr Armstrong had just completed a tour of the King Country portion of his district before Christmas. During the course of the tuur the work of arranging to supply stock to the Improved Farm settlers was undertaken by Mr Armstrong, who accompanied by Mr Heslop, visited the Tangitu district,
