GARRIAGE OF BUTTER.
In connection with the remarks made recently by Mr Bevege, one of the directors of the Pio Pio Dairy Company, concerning trip carriage of butter on the railway, Mr Bevege this week interviewed a Chronicle representative. He said his remarks were not meant to reflect upon the ofiicial3 of the department. The reference to butter being shipped in a truck along with hides and skins was merely hearsay, and he attached no importance to it. However, the grade note which stated that butter was received in Auckland at a temperature of 68 was evidence that matters could be improved in the carriage of such an important a product as butter. Mr Bevege said he had ssen Mr White, the stationmaster at Te Kuiti, and explained the matter to him. The directors had always found the utmost courtesy and consideration extended to them" by the local railway officials. They realised the difficulties attendant upon the carriage of the butter and naturally wished to get the best conditions possible. Mr White was doing his utmost for them, and they were consequently grateful. Mr Bevege considered the co-opera-tion of all the factories in the district with respect to sending butter would remedy the matter thoroughly.
