THE CARRIAGE OF BUTTER.

*- ■ UNSATISFACTORY CONDITIONS

A highly commendable suggestion was made by Mr G. Bevege at the dairy factory on Monday evening to the effect that the several factories in the district should co-operate in the matter of shipping their butter to Auckland, and arranging for the carriage of the butter under the best * possible conditions. The last consign- " ment sent by the Pio Pio factory by rail reached its destination in a condition which made it impossible for the article to keep. The temperature of the butter was 68 degrees as was *j»idenced by the grade note. In another instance he was credibly informed a consignment of butter made the journey to Auckland in the same truck as a parcel of hides and skins. Co-operation by the factories in this matter would prevent a rpcurrence <>i these evilß and the suppliers would get a decided benefit. Such happenings, moreover, were unfair to thefafltory managers as the butter would lose in quality, and be graded lower than would have been the case had proper conditions obtained. The suggestion was favourably ' received, the chairman remarking that as far as the Te Kuiti Company was concerned it would always be found willing to co-operate with the Pio Pio 'Company for their mutual benefit.
