OHURA COUNTY COUNCIL.
ANNUAL MEETING
The postponed meeting of the Ohura J County Council was held on November | 24th in the Council Chamber;;, Manj garoa. The returning oilicer (Mr ,T. i McClenaghan) presided. Present j Crs Risk, Sandison, Keilv, Hay ward, | Loveday, Carrie, Goldfinch, Sowry. j Crs Sandison and Loveday were ■ nominated for the position of county chairman. The result of the voting j wag—'For Cr Sandison. Crs Risk, j Kelly and Sowry; for Cr Loveday, Crs Goldfinch, Ilayward and Currie. Lots were drawn and Cr Loveday was successful. J Cr Loveday thanked the councillors j | for the honour they hat) done him, and | trusted with their support to forward j the interests of the Ohura district in a fitting manner. j Cr Sandison thanked the councillors and urged them to press on the development of the district, a3, with the approach of the railway, it was the ducy of the councillors to develop the district so as to reap the full advantage of the railway line, which would mean the metalling of roads leading into the line. Mangakara Road.—Mr R. YV. McRae wrote, objecting to the erection of the bridge on this road, and urging that the money be spent in widening. Mr W. H. Robbie wrote, urging the erection of the bridge to give the settlers access to their sections.Resolved that the engineer prepare plans and have the work put in hand at once.
Pora Road.—Mr A. Barnett wrote that he required his thirds spent on this road in place of the Waitewhena road as previously arranged.— Held over till next meeting. Mangaroa Road. —Mr J. Austin wrote requesting permission to fill in drains on Ohura road.—Received. Rubbish Depot, Mangaroa. The Crown lands ranger was instructed to consult with the county engineer with the view of locating a site. Ohura Main Road. —Mr W. K.
Williams wrote requesting that the council urge on the authorities the necessity of having work done on the main Ohura road.—Resolved that the chairman consult with Mr W. T. Jennings and havo the position of the main road brought before the Minister of Public Works. Road Grants. The Under-Secre-tary of Works wrote that the council should intimate their intention of expending votes otherwise these votes would lapse. Hapurua Road Contract. available for expenditure. Mr Aves, waited on tha council to have a drain constructed to remove the I water that lies around his building, he urged the need of drainage of that part of the town which could only be done by this particular drain other- I wise during the ensuing summer it will be a cause of sickness to the | whole town. j
The chairman explained that it was proposed to make arrangements for the drainage of the township in a very short time, which would meet the requirements of Mr Aves. If the townsmen would not do so it would then be advisable for the council to undertake the work. Mr Kaspar waited on the council to obtain payment for work done on metalling work at Ilohatahi Flat for an extra three inches of river metal, —Resolved that the amount of royalty paid by Mr Kaspar be refunded.— Waikaka Road Bridges.—The tender of J. Mercer was accepted for this work. j Crs Sandison, Risk and Loveday i (chairman) were appointed tender ! committee and Crs Kcilyand Loveday j to sign cheques. ' :
