A young half-caste named Richard Lovett. was charged with the theft o! a watch chain and pendant, the property of Mr T. Wells. Mr Sharpies, on behalf oi the father, explained that the buy had been taken away from him hy his mother some six years ago, and that the la J had been living with the Maoris. The father was willing to take hirn home and look after him. His Worship gave the boy a j iood talking to and ordered him to come up for sentence when called on.
Rau Rata, a native, was charged with boarding a train at To Ivuiti whilst in motion. A line of .is and costs was indicted. Houghton v. Te Koha Taitoko. a claim for £1 5 If? lid. Mr Sharpie-;, instructed by Mr Northcroft, applied lor leave te defend. Mr iline objected, and the application being refused, judgment was given for plamtiff for the amount claimed. .Judgment; by default was given in the following undefended cases, with costs: —Robertson v. Burden, .£;>.» It's (counterclaim £2O 18s lid struck out); Cart- v. Walker, £l2 1 2s; Steven? v. Walker, £2O 10s. Judgment Summons.- - -Colo v. Gage, £3 3s Sd.—An order for immediate payment, was made or in default seven days' imprisonment, suspended so long as Ids a month is paid.
